Success of Movie Posters



This movie poster is for "The Dark Knight Rises". This has to be on my top favorite movie posters of all time! The movie is basically about Gotham pretty much going to hell under the power of Bane. This poster shows that clearly with the buildings representing Gotham's physical state. They are all just falling a part into pieces. The viewpoint is from someone in the streets of the city looking up. This can be a sign of symbolism because this person needs someone to stand up and stop the madness which to most people is Batman. So seeing Batman's symbol high up shows his strength and hope. The title has the word Rise which is what the Batman is doing. I like the use of black and white. The white Batman symbol is the point of emphasis in the piece. 


"The Conjuring" is another one of my favorites. I love horror movies and when this poster first was release I knew I was going to like the movie! The photography is very eerie and mysterious. The fog creeping around the dead tree and across the lot makes there feel like something is hiding and unsolved. Also having a noose as a focal point draws a person in as well, which then brings them into see that there is a shadow figure hanging. The house in the background is where you know you're going to get all your answers. The text for "The Conjuring" I feel matches with the scenery quite nicely. 


Lastly, Harry freaking Potter! This is by far my favorite series on the face of the planet. This poster is a promotion for both "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 & Part 2. I like how the majority of the image is dark because the movies get darker as you go. The warmth of the colors on castle is due to the flames. I think it is cool that the designer shortened Harry Potter to HP7 because you can see more of the background. I own the copy where the whole title is spelled out, which I like better. Reason being is because the Harry Potter font is so unique and symbolic that you want to see more of it. I also like how you can see the reflection of the castle in the water...makes it very real. The text "It All Ends Here" is great because it doesn't tell you who wins in the end, but somethings definitely happens.

And They Are Off!



This print advertisement is super creative and funny! This ad is all about feeding your cat's instinct. The food company is called Whiskas. The ad is a photograph of wildlife by George Logan. A domesticated cat would never be able to keep up with an antelope in the wild. This is where this ad gets its humor. It catches your attention and you just run with it. The detail within the photograph is perfect because the background is mainly faded which keeps your eyes on the animals and text. The text is in the bottom left corner and quite small. I think this works well with the ad because the the imagery will bring the audience in further and then they will want to read the text given. I'm not a huge fan of the purple box, but it makes the text pop and I believe it is the logo's color so it works.

Book Cover

This Children's Fiction Book cover design by Allison Colpoys is absolutely beautiful! The illustration definitely give it a playful and sort of sweetness to it. I like how she stayed with three basic and nature colors. The white and gray give a winter feel to the image. The brown adds a bit of warmth. The type for the Alaska is perfect! The texture of the text imitates that of tree bark. Awesome design!

Early Bird Gets The Worm





This package design is for Gortz Shoes for kids. This design is definitely a success at drawing kids and even adults towards it. The shape is not your average rectangular shoe box, but it is in the shape of a bird. The color for the box is fun, cheerful and inviting. Having the birds be a dark or more natural color allows the color is the shoelace to pop out. The lace for the shoe acts as a worm that the bird caught. Having this lace (worm) be the pop of color makes the product that you are buying that more exciting because it is bright and energetic. I would love to see what the shoe looks like on the inside of this cute and playful shoe box!

Lion Bird



This week I came across this logo design. I am not quite sure what this company does, but I was attracted to the artwork. This piece has to animals within it, a lion and a bird. The bird is in the middle flying up with its wings out and tail below. The lion is hidden within the birds body and wings. The lion's eyes are the pattern in the birds wings. And the nose of the lion is seen within the birds chest area. Lastly, the tail of the bird forms the mouth of the lion. I like the use of color and space the logo takes up overall. The reds and oranges match the color that the animal would be in real life. Also the colors are warm. To me the phrase "Strong Hold" seems like it would be some sort of insurance type company. So if this logo happens to be an insurance company the warm colors help the client feel protected in a friendly and safe place. The font in all caps work well with the piece too because both animals have a feeling of being alert, so the caps make it feel large.

It's Electric




Here is a logo for Ed's Electric. I am really drawn to this logo because of the contrast and imagery shown. The white of the cord makes the hidden black "E" come out at you. It is brilliant how the two ends of the cord form the line brakes in the "E". The cord after the "E" could even be read as a "D", but I don't think it was intended to be done so. The font is in all caps creating unity with the "E". This logo is overall quite fun to look at and easy to read!

Music Makes Stories





This week I went looking for award winning book covers and found this one pretty fun and different. I first of love the color theme for this book. It is simple, clean, and calming. The blue brings in a calm feeling over me just like a piano does. The book title is Middle C and having it the same size as the author show equal importance. But on top of that is the middle c key from a piano that is very large. This draws people in, but still relates to the title of the story. Also having the key there instead of just the title helps the reader get a feeling of what this book will be about. Lastly, I like how the designer used black and white text to tie it together with the key!

Fall Is Here!






Nothing says fall is here like Cider! I really like this design! The typography is rotated to go vertical showing of the winking face. This captures the playfulness and enjoyment this cider could have for you. The color choices work in this design because they relate to the color of a lime and berries. The white text on top of the pop of color is a great contrast. This is the same for the black text on top of the white background. They play well off of each other and grab the audiences attention. Another thing that helps with this design is how the "d" connects with the background because it allows the reader to read "Cider" as one word. I would love to try one of these sometime because the design makes it seem delicious!

Splash!





Here is a photograph by Ted Tamburo Photography. I enjoy this piece because it shows a great deal of action photography. The timing that was put into this is incredible! I like how they did the spacing of the ice cube from the liquid, as well as the how close the glass is to the reader. The timing is similar in a way because in the back the ice cube is far away from the liquid, instead of the front glass having the ice cube within the drink. Having the final splash close to the viewer gives a feeling that it is right there in front of you. I also enjoy the colors used within the piece not too extreme, but not boring.

Transportation At Its Finest!




This box design for Ford matches is perfect! I like how they used a pick up truck because they do help transport your supplies. In this case the truck holds your matches as you go about your day. They also stuck with Ford's blue and white color scheme. This was a smart decision because it gave this piece unity.I also enjoyed how writing was only on the back of the truck and one could only it view by opening the box. It is kind of like a book in a since because you have to open it if you want to learn more. This box definitely has character, which helps it be remembered.

A Design That Is Breaking Good!



I love the TV series Breaking Bad! But that is not the only reason way I decided to use this image for my blog post. The reason as to why I like this piece so much is because of the use of photography, as well as typography. The use of the periodic table Br and Ba help tie the numerous uses of chemistry to the show. Also a part from the Br and Ba the separation of Breaking Bad is perfect! For those that have seen the show these two (Jesse and Walt) are the kings of meth business, so to speak. So have breaking break after the "a" indicates the "king". The photography on the other hand works well because it shows how Jesse and Walt are different through a visual. Also the image shows the audience that anyone can truly break bad.

Disposable Film Festival Logo




This logo really catches my eye because of the positive and negative space. The artist used the name of the Festival to their advantage for sure! The logo is of a dumpster with one of its sides representing film making the name Disposable Film. The colors also are a great from a personal stand point. I also really like how the viewer has to put the pieces together to understand the image being shown. Overall, I enjoy this logo a lot!
